FRIDAY’S FINEST: ISSUE #5 Lebron James, Jon Snow, and Rio 2016
We’ve been away for a while, but we are happy to be back and sharing the top marketing pieces we saw this week. I saw some incredible stuff these last couple weeks including the long awaited Pixar film Finding Dory, the Cleveland Cavaliers bring a major championship title to their city for the first time in over 50 years, and watched Dustin Johnson play through the USGA’s questionable penalty to overcome and win the US Open. Let’s jump right into #3 on our countdown.
#3) Worth the Wait-Nike Basketball
We saw another great weekend in sports with the Cavaliers defying the odds and finally bringing the people of Cleveland an NBA championship. LeBron James is the first player in NBA history in any series of any length — regardless of round — to lead outright or tie for the lead among all players from both teams in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks for an entire series. Nike Basketball jumped on the team victory and created a beautiful spot celebrating the long awaited victory. The spot features Cleveland fans around the city watching and reveling in their team’s success. From the early days of Aristotle, we were taught one of the major strategies of persuasion is ethos or emotion. This ad captures the dedication and satisfaction of Cleveland fans which earns them the #3 spot on our countdown.

#2) Game of Thrones Agency-Chimp&z Inc.
The long awaited season finale of Game of Thrones premiered Sunday. The episode was another example of why the show is able to hold the attention of so many viewers. Explosions, battles, revenge, corruption, greed, and astonishing CGI. What more does one want? Digital agency Chimp&z played off the show’s popularity creating job roles for the characters. Although this isn’t directly selling anything, this marketing piece was a great way to hike up engagement and bring a pop culture phenomenon into the agency life. The pictures below are just two of the fantastic drawings. #1) The Carpool to Rio-VISA ft. Team VISA Olympians
The 2016 Summer Olympics games in Rio are only two months away and VISA is taking full advantage of the event. They created a very fun spot featuring athletes on their VISA Olympic team carpooling to Rio together. The spot features all types of athletes using VISA’s payment ring to purchase anything they need for the road trip. The piece is hoping to persuade others to use the ring as their primary payment method which will compete with the likes of Apple Pay and other major companies. I enjoyed this commercial because of the genuinely funny showcasing of the athletes and product. You can check out the full ad here:
